Star Trek: The Next Generation - Resistance Print E-mail
Written by Andy Davenport
Continuing The Next Generations adventures post-Nemesis, Resistance follows on from Death In Winter.

The best thing that could be said about the re-launch of these books is that the whole Pocket Books novel universe now relate to each other, run chronologically correct, and provider a much larger saga to lose yourself in. The DS9, Titan, Voyager, and Next Generation novels now all bind together with each other.

If you lost interest in the novels, now couldn’t be a better time to re-discover them, and fall in love all over again.

Star Trek DVD Hides Secret Webcam Hologram Print E-mail
Written by Simon

Star Trek XI will arrive November on DVD and it’ll come with a hologram that unlocks hidden online content.

The Trek DVD’s cover includes the hologram that unlocks the “augmented reality” features, according to Variety.com. Users will need an internet connection and a computer with a webcam; they will have to log in to a website to access the extras. Using the webcam, they will hold up the DVD cover design with the hologram to control various online features.

The interactive Trek cover art unveils tours of the Enterprise’s decks and a game originating on the ship’s bridge. Apparently, the DVD acts as a sort of optical mouse, steering the user’s perspective through the content, not unlike the current promotion that lets fans unlock Blink-182 concert footage using a specially marked Doritos bag.

The various DVD favours will be launched Nov. 2nd in the UK (apparently not till the 17th Nov in the U.S.....sorry Yanks!) and will include all of the expected special features, including commentaries and several scenes cut from the theatrical print.

The Blu-ray edition offers exclusive branching pods that allow for enhanced exploration, more fascinating features on the starships, planets, props, costumes and sound of STAR TREK, as well as a Starfleet Vessel Simulator and access to the latest NASA news about real-life space exploration via BD-Live.

You can pre-order your copy now from Amazon courtesy of Manchester Starfleet by clicking on the cover images to the right of the home page.

STXI Phaser Model from Playmates Print E-mail
Written by Simon Hodgkinson
altI've just bought the new Playmates model of the phaser from STXI and I must say I'm fairly impressed.

It's a light weight plastic design with a chrome effect. It has 3 sound effects, the stun effect, kill effect and, my personal favorite, the power-up sound which was briefly heard when Spock was holstering his phaser while standing on the transporter just before beaming down to Vulcan to save his parents.

Star Trek: The Next Generation - Death In Winter Print E-mail
Written by Andy Davenport
Death In Winter marks the re-launch of the ongoing adventures of The Next Generation in novel format.
The novel follows the aftermath of Star Trek: Nemesis.

The following is a brief synopsis taken from the book cover.

‘Long before Captain Jean-Luc Picard took command of the legendary Starship Enterprise, he fell deeply & hopelessly in love with Doctor Beverly Crusher. Though, for one reason or another, Picard never acted on his feelings, he found a measure of content as Beverly’s close friend, colleague, and daily breakfast partner.
